OK, I really don’t intend for this to be a Microsoft bashing forum, there are plenty of those out there already. However, it just occurred to me that Google is the current “Golden Child” of the IT world. Sure our Redmond friends haven’t sat on the throne in quite some time but I do recall a time when Microsoft could do no wrong. MCSEs were a dime a dozen (so much so that my company at the time asked me to stop studying for mine because it was worthless) and Network admins couldn’t wait to dump their Novell systems. Sure, many of you will point out that Google is a search engine not an Operating System company. Just wait… Gmail, Google News, Google Maps, some new Google Chat and I’m sure a plethora of others. Doesn’t it seem that a full Google OS of some sort could be on the horizon too? I’m thinking something based on Linux or FreeBSD but with Google’s own special “sauce”. Can you imagine the adoption rate? Linux could experience the greatest growth in it’s history. Even if it doesn’t happy that way it could! Don’t forget you read it here first.
No matter what happens, Google is the fair-haired-boy for now. I hope they can keep up the innovation.
