Wow, I’m just not sure what to think about this. On one hand, I applaud the efforts of those looking out for our nations children. On the other, I’m not a big fan of laws that govern common sense. I have no doubt that the smoking of my parents and family members did some harm. I certainly would have liked it if they had not smoked at all let alone around me but would I call it abuse that they did? I don’t think so. Sure, when I was a child parents knew smoking was bad but probably not to the extent that they know today so I suppose ignorance was partly to blame for this. Today, with all of the information available about the effects of smoking and second hand smoke, I do think it is incredibly irresponsible for parents, grandparents and adults in general to smoke around their children or any child for that matter. Is it neglect or abuse though? Probably not. Irresponsible and incredibly selfish? Absolutely. Worth passing into law to make it illegal? Who the hell knows.
